Once again, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County, Virginia, has been named the No. 1 high school in the U.S.
Senior data analyst with U.S. News & World Report Eric Brooks said some of the things that put Thomas Jefferson on top include a nearly 100% graduation rate, and the fact that every senior took advanced placement exams and got a score of three or higher.
As far as statewide testing goes, Brooks said, “All their students are proficient at reading and math.” Thomas Jefferson also does very well in U.S. News’ science, technology, engineering and math ranking, which looks at performance on AP exams in science and mathematics.
Montgomery High Schools Score High in U.S. News 2021 Rankings
Whitman High School and Poolesville are the only Maryland High Schools in the top 150 this year.
The U.S. News & World Report released their annual Best High School rankings Tuesday. At No. 111, Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda and at No. 119, Poolesville are the only two high schools in Maryland to make the top 150 nationally.
U.S. News ranked more than 17,000 public high schools in the country based on their performance on state assessment and how well they prepare students for college. The six factors used to compile a score for each school include college readiness, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate.
Council to Vote on Proposed Chevy Chase Dog Park
Montgomery Parks will pitch a new dog park in Chevy Chase to the Montgomery County Planning Board on May 6.
The dog park is proposed to be a little less than half an acre and located at the center of Norwood Local Park. Amenities will include a fenced area separating large and small dogs, a shade structure, seating and a water source for dogs.
Norwood Local Park, a 17.5 acre lot on Norwood Drive, was selected following a Dog Parks Site Suitability (DPSS) Study, which aims to find the most appropriate locations for dog parks in the area.
