and there were admissions about all that kind of stuff. and it s kind of along the same lines. no one ever bothered and showed up to look. and as soon as someone did, all of this started to spill out. beth, similar question. you host a program called alabama politics you are a democrat, but having said that, you said roy moore is almost a deity status in alabama. so tell us what alabama voters are saying and why so many are standing by him. i think a lot of voters here really can see the writing on the wall and know these stories ring too true for so many people to ignore them. but there s still a majority of people here who still have the roy moore bumper sticker was right on their car. and i don t think these facts are going to move even if the earth s 2,000 years old. interesting. do they not get news? do they only get news in one place? do they even pay attention to news? what s going on? i mean i think a lot of it s just the small town bubbles like josh was saying where
roy moore acted inappropriately with me in someway kind of stories. beth, you think the same thing? i don t think so. in fact i know of women who had these experiences and they either don t want to share these stories because they don t want their job or families to be put through, but for some reason they haven t decided to tep forward. i know there s more women, but i hope everyone has the heart to come forward and tell their story. thank you both. we re going to discuss this more. we ll be right back.
beth, you first. cnn spoke with a number of women who say there were whispers about roy moore for years, that women in town knew to stay away from him. had you heard this before? i hadn t. i grew up a little ways south of gadsten. so it wasn t something i was really privy to. but i heard from people living up there these same rumors, several weeks before it broke, so it wasn t a shock to me when i heard it, but i hate to see these women saying the same thing. and there are reports tonight in the the new yorker about alleged activity in a mall, and i m sure you guys heard about that. but josh, you were a reporter an alabama political reporter, any sexual misconduct you heard by roy moore before this? no, i haven t. and i think it was one of those stories that was kind of one of those small-town kind of stories. where the problem was no one really showed up to ask.
jerry mitchells, a really great reporter from mississippi, he broke the story about the kkk and killings that were later prosecuted in the 80s and 90s. and there were admissions about all that kind of stuff. and it s kind of along the same lines. no one ever bothered and showed up to look. and as soon as they did, all of this started to spill out. beth, similar question. you said roy moore is almost a diety status in alabama. so tell us what alabama voters are saying and why so many are standing by him? i think a lot of voters here really can see the writing on the wall and know these stories ring true for too many to people to ignore them. but there s still a majority of people here who still have the royal moore bumper sticker on
one, we know we are down 59-41. he knows jones s backyard. if jones has any desire to hold that seat in 2020. he is going to give. he has to give. wiggle room. beth, i want to know what you know because you know probably more than me. what surprised you? because the polls were back and forth. we had one ten points for jones the other day but that was in person, i think robocalls were getting better. the other one going nine points the other way for jones. i m sorry, back for moore. and then we had four out of the last five before that who were all for moore. what did we learn, the inability of polls the poll or what? what do we get out of here? i don t trust the polls ever since we saw what happened in 2016 when they were telling us that hillary had it in the bag. what i do trust are the alabama
