let s bring into our conversation, nbc 4 washington investigative reporter scott mcfarland. we re going to get to your interview with officer gonell but i want to talk about officer fanone. it was a fantastic interview with my colleague, chris hayes. officer fanone, not a political person, but someone who is incapable of accepting the lies being shoveled into the discourse by republicans. and those comments, i mean, the frankly revelatory, that law enforcement doesn t belong in the political conversation, but that they have to be there. this is your beat. you cover them. probably wasn t a shock for you to hear that. no, especially here, nicole, where police specifically and deliberately do not align themselves politically. they have to defend 535 voting members of the u.s. congress without passion or prejudice, but they re also not politically
and is accused of covering it up in some way. why isn t this a big story? you know why, because i think that on the list of outrageous this comes very low. and you know i think with bill clinton, michael did a brilliant job of reporting on the story. i was there hanging over his shoulder. looking at his computer. while he was doing it. but at that time, it wasn t a shock that bill clinton was having an affair. because we already knew he had done that. it was a shock when it came it became clear that he was going to be deposed and lied. i think with donald trump, first of all everybody knows that this is what he does. and i think that he has it was a consensual affair. i don t think any money changed hands at the time. at least that we know of.
payment for a former adult film star a month before the 2016 election as part of an agreement to preclude her from publicly discussing an alleged sexual encounter with mr. trump. why hasn t the public responed the same way? this is someone who is now the president of the united states, was married, had a small child and is accused of covering it up in some way. why isn t this a big story? you know why? because i think that this comes very low. with bill clinton, and i have to say that michael coffman did a good job reporting on monica lewinsky and i was hanging over his shoulder while he was doing it. during that time, it wasn t a shock that bill clinton was
beth, you first. cnn spoke with a number of women who say there were whispers about roy moore for years, that women in town knew to stay away from him. had you heard this before? i hadn t. i grew up a little ways south of gadsten. so it wasn t something i was really privy to. but i heard from people living up there these same rumors, several weeks before it broke, so it wasn t a shock to me when i heard it, but i hate to see these women saying the same thing. and there are reports tonight in the the new yorker about alleged activity in a mall, and i m sure you guys heard about that. but josh, you were a reporter an alabama political reporter, any sexual misconduct you heard by roy moore before this? no, i haven t. and i think it was one of those stories that was kind of one of those small-town kind of stories. where the problem was no one really showed up to ask.
jenna: there is a lot happening in tampa. i am generally. jon: i am jon scott. governor romney s running mate expected to take the floor. paul ryan will speak in tampa. the vice presidential pick to focus more on his personal story than on policy. his speech following opening remarks meant to rally the party, republican delegates and millions of americans watching at home, hearing from governor romney s wife, ann. and chris christie and john kasich. ladies and gentlemen, we need to leave here in march and get everybody to make sure that mitt romney and paul ryan our president and vice president of the united states. you may not agree with mitt s position on politics. by the way, massachusetts is only 13% republican, so it wasn t a shock to me. but let me say this to every american who is thinking about
