Ingram Valley Farm has been named runner-up in the best rural diversification project category at this year’s Rural Business Awards.
The farm, run by Rebecca Wilson alongside her husband Ross and father-in-law Johnny, reintroduced red deer to the valley in 2019, where they first roamed 10,000 years ago.
They invested in new handling facilities and now have more than 150 red deer on the farm, as well as 1,400 sheep, 1,500 prime lambs and 100 cattle.
A SOMERSET-BASED company has been named one of the best businesses in rural Britain, in winning a Rural Business Award. Musgrove Willows, from Westonzoyland near Bridgwater, was named Best Rural Retail Business at the first-ever virtual national final of the Rural Business Awards, in association with Amazon. From a farm on the Somerset Levels, the family-run business - founded in 1928 - grows more than 60 different varieties of sustainable and environmentally friendly willow. The willow is processed on site using traditional methods and crafted into a range of willow products by a skilled craft team. The 2020/21 Rural Business Awards marks the sixth year of celebrating the success of businesses across the UK’s rural sector, which contributes £299 billion (gross value added) to the overall UK economy.
