This week, a food truck selling 3D-printed vegan meat to meat-eaters in Kidron, Israel (a suburb of Tel Aviv) sold out of 1,000 servings in five hours. Hosted by Israeli vegan company Redefine Meat in partnership with meat distributor Best Meister, the event called “There’s a new meat in town” featured a food truck wrapped in traditional “carnivore” branding and served traditional meat-centric Mediterranean dishes without initially informing customers that the meat component was vegan. The truck served the innovative vegan meat with little to no condiments or toppings in order to highlight the flavor and texture similarities of Redefine Meat’s vegan steak to its animal-derived counterpart. When customers learned that the meat they consumed was plant-based, 90 percent were satisfied with the revelation and said that it was comparable to animal-derived meat in taste, texture, and mouthfeel.
Redefine Meat s Alt-Steak product
Redefine Meat, an alt-protein business based in Israel using 3D technology, has signed a distribution deal following a blind taste-testing exercise.
The firm has inked an agreement with locally-based distributor Best Meister to commercialise its products in the first half of this year.
It recently held a blind tasting of its products, including its Alt-Steaks, during which 600 people bought almost 1,000 of its dishes from a food truck, which sold out within five hours.
Redefine Meat s said the bulk of buyers thought its products were indistinguishable from animal meat and it recorded a 90% acceptance rate.
Best Meister will now target Israeli restaurants and high-end butchers in its attempt to distribute the products.

Redefine Meat has landed a major distribution deal for their lifelike 3D printed “alt-meat” products.
The Israeli company has been developing a replacement for animal meat based entirely on plant material. While this has been attempted previously, Redefine Meat’s secret sauce is their ability to 3D print meat structures that mimic actual meat textures.
Redefine Meat can 3D print alt-meat objects that are extremely close to actual meat in appearance, taste, texture and temperature behavior. You can even cook the products in the same way as animal meat and expect similar results.
