Fire destroys garage at Scotty s Castle

Ridgecrest Daily Independent A fire April 22 destroyed the historic garage and damaged a second historic outbuilding at Scotty s Castle in Death Valley, according to a National Park Service news release. The historic main house and other surrounding historic structures were unharmed. Construction contractors discovered and reported an active fire in the garage and long shed buildings Thursday morning. Contractors on the scene attempted to stop the fire from spreading further into the long shed, according to the release. The fire was mostly contained by the time firefighters from Death Valley National Park and the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department arrived. Firefighters then monitored for hotspots and stabilized the remains of the structures.
