ALBANY This year s version of the annual Dancing in the Woods, which was virtual, raised $269,700 for the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, the health are organization said Thursday.
Faced with the pandemic, the 37th yearly event on Dec. 4 had no fir trees, no dancing, no tuxedos, no gowns and no gourmet dining, the hallmarks of the region’s premier gala.
But more than 500 viewers tuned into the event that included remarks by Albany Med President and CEO Dennis P. McKenna, M.D., and CDPHP President and CEO John D. Bennett, M.D., as well as a trumpet solo by Themba Pieterse, a 2020 Albany High School graduate, and testimonials from area families and children touched by the Melodies Center, the hospital said.
