But what exactly is meant by the rule of law, and why is it so important? At its core, the rule of law reflects the democratic ideal of an independent and impartial judicial branch. Under the rule of law, the outcome of a case is not dependent on the person who filed the case, or the judge who presided over the case, or the courthouse where the case was filed.
