The Count s Count counts in their new programme

Monash University has re-launched their Jazz Club at their Clayton campus with a brand new name – The Count’s– a joint reference to both their Executive Director of the Monash Academy of Performing Arts – Paul Grabowksy (known as “Count Paul Grabowsky” in the early 90’s when musical director for the Steve Vizard show); and to Count Basie – jazz pianist, band leader, composer and leader of his band for almost 50 years – a band that set the standards for new and exciting Big Band sounds and Big Band Swing. Paul talked about some of the challenges of getting a Jazz club up and running post-COVID, and the joys of seeing such a great group of performers programmed across the first few months.

Musician s Unite at the Socialist Jazz Club

Michelle Nicolle and Ronny Ferella visited the Bent Notes Studio at JOY 94.9 to chat about the Socialist Jazz Club, Jazzing-up Bach, Juggernauts! and a whole lot more. Ronny talks about the love of working out what famous drummers were doing when he was younger, his Small Space Music website (it’s a dot com!) – and Reg Lindsay! (for those that are old enough to remember Reg) Michelle talks about the ability to throw a Jazz-eye across any musical form, including Bach. And they both chat about the new weekly Friday night Socialist Jazz Club at the Cross Street Hall in East Brunswick, kicking off on Friday May 14 with the Michelle Nicolle Quartet and the Improv Mill led by Nick Haywood.

Adam Celebrates DINGO | Bent Notes

Melbourne Musician Adam Simmons spoke on Bent Notes about the Brand New Australian Jazz Magazine called DINGO. Adam has taken on the role of Editor for what will become a twice yearly magazine for everyone interested in Jazz – from they musician’s themselves, to those who simply enjoy listening and perhaps want some guidance from the latest album reviews.   Adam also chats briefly about his project – The Usefulness Of Art, a mentoring, consultancy and advocacy project. Hear all about the Magazine, and the Launch Party also celebrating both DINGO and this year’s International Jazz Day on April 30 at the Thornbury Theatre.
