Monash University has re-launched their Jazz Club at their Clayton campus with a brand new name –
The Count’s– a joint reference to both their Executive Director of the Monash Academy of Performing Arts – Paul Grabowksy
(known as “Count Paul Grabowsky” in the early 90’s when musical director for the Steve Vizard show); and to Count Basie – jazz pianist, band leader, composer and leader of his band for almost 50 years – a band that set the standards for new and exciting Big Band sounds and Big Band Swing.
Paul talked about some of the challenges of getting a Jazz club up and running post-COVID, and the joys of seeing such a great group of performers programmed across the first few months.
