James Bernard of Twentynine Palms was pronounced dead at about 9 a.m. Tuesday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, according to Riverside County Sheriff s Sgt. Brent Seacrest. Bernard was stabbed at about 4:15 a.m. on Feb. 3 in the 300 block of South Palm Canyon Drive, near West Baristo Road, and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain unclear, although police were investigating it as a homicide.
