At walmart. I remember thinking, im a desperate author but not quite that desperate. It turned out it was a fraudulent charge and had nothing to do with my book, though you think about it, if someone had stolen my credit card to buy my book that might have been the perfect crime. But for me personally, the most interesting aspect of this episode is that my wife noticed the fraudulent charge immediately. And its because she monitors our credit card like a hawk. I never would have noticed this charge. If i had it would have been months and months later. She noticed it almost in real time. Several months ago i was out of touch for a while, i came home, and my wife said, i hadnt heard from you for hours, but i wasnt worried because i knew you were at the bar watching the hockey game. Literally every beer i was buying coming up on the screen, and i know some of you are worried about the nsa creating a 24hour surveillance state, dont worry, ive been married 2 1 2 years, you get used to it. Book. After the civil war king had led one of the important scientific migszs of the west and was the first person to incorporate photograph 23i into that sort of study. He chose to accompany him, a man who is becoming one of the Great American photographers timmy o sullivan, who then worked with king on the survey for three years. Osullivan had been a protojaj e jay of Matthew Brady quite possibly meeting him in the early 1850s as a boy where brady had a photographic portrait gallery. I realized that there was no first rate big ra fill of Matthew Brady and it seemed to me to deserve one. Heres a very flat i recall inging painting of brady. The years since have been a lesson in just how little i knew about the man when i decided to write about him. And how little i knew was accurate it should have struck me that if there was not a good book about such an important figure, there might be a reason why. He did not keep a journal or write a memoir.
