BENGALURU: Health minister K Sudhakar on Thursday said the state will resume vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group from May 22. The state had suspended the drive for this category from May 14.
To start with, frontline workers and priority groups will be first inoculated. The frontline workers to be vaccinated in the 18-44 age group include disabled persons, crematorium staff, teachers on Covid duty, auto and cab drivers, guards, housekeeping staff, petrol bunk staff, pharmaceutical staff and judicial officers.
The priority groups include telecom staff, advocates, film industry personnel and staff of airlines.

BENGALURU: Syed Naseer Hussain, a Congress Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, performed the last rites of a Brahmin professor who died due to Covid-19 on May 5. On Tuesday, he immersed the professor’s ashes at Paschima Vahini near Srirangapatna.
Prof Savitri Vishwanathan, 80, a researcher of Japanese language, history and politics, was former head of the department of Chinese and Japanese Studies in Delhi University. With Savitri’s younger sister Mahalakshmi Atreyi battling for life in another hospital, Syed performed the rituals the same day. She had moved to Bengaluru after retirement.
