In the 2023-2024 budget, stormwater drains secured the second-highest allocation of Rs 1,643.72 crore, including over Rs 70 crore for maintenance and Rs 15 crore for emergency monsoon works. However, the Bengaluru Nava Nirmana Party (BNP) highlights that the lack of proper covers for sewage tanks and the neglect of open drains continue to be persistent issues, causing inconvenience for the residents of Bellandur.
Residents have lodged numerous complaints about this issue, recently prompting officials to desilt the drain. However, the relief brought by this action is seen as temporary by the residents, who fear the problem will resurface.
Adding to the woes, the road faced digging in 2022 for UGD pipes and small chambers, but restoration efforts were not carried out. Cable operators and GAIL also contributed to the road’s deterioration by digging without proper tarring.
