29-year-old Ashwini was sexually assaulted by an auto driver in Bengaluru after he took advantage of her unfamiliarity with the route. Despite her attempts to book a cab through ride-sharing platforms, she found herself waiting for over 30 minutes since it was almost midnight, after which she got an auto that was passing by. Ashwini was able to fend off the driver, but he followed her to her apartment. The next day, she attempted to file a police report but was discouraged by the officers who warned her that pursuing the case would require multiple court appearances, and site visits, and the court case could drag on for several years.
