Featherstone Young wins Black Mountains College job Featherstone Young has topped an all-Wales-based shortlist to masterplan the new Black Mountains College campus in the Brecon Beacons National Park   The practice – founded by Sarah Featherstone and Jeremy Young whose Ty Hedfan home is a short distance from the site ( Advertisement The project will create a campus for the recently founded Black Mountains College, which aims to provide a pioneering new model of land use and teaching responding to the growing ecological and climate crisis. It is led by activist and writer Ben Rawlence. Advertisement The architects’ passive, sustainable concept for the site harnesses low-impact, recycled and locally sourced materials. It has been inspired by the Black Mountain College in rural North Carolina where tutors such as Anni Albers and Buckminster Fuller fostered such talents as Robert Rauschenberg and Ruth Asawa.
