Becoming the first woman to swim from the fa ralio nislands to the golden gate and completed it in 16 hours touching the Golden Gate Bridge a few moments ago. Ann reuben has more on the treacherous conditions in the final hours of her swim. It seemed like the final stretch, stretched on forever but a cold kim chambers never gave up and 4 30 this afternoon, history was made and chambers was the first win to successfully swim from the islands to the Golden Gate Bridge. A 30mile journey that begin at 11 00 a. M. Friday in icy waters and the waters there are known for a feasting place was for sharks. But kim became sick and unable to keep nutrition down but when the bridge was in sight she couldnt give up. The Fire Department providing some fanfare and an emotional chambers made it to her goal. 700 people were expected to gather this weekend. Nbc bay area is live chuck . Reporter i can tell you that right now, the championship swim meet has resumed. You might be able to see some people milling about behind me. There is a big group of trees there. It is a summer Recreational Swim League for youngsters between 3 and 18. But about 200 people of the 700 people expected were here this morning when some of them, up to a dozen people in fact, reported that they were feeling dizzy. That complaint included two children. The event was shut down and participant were told to leave the area. As the fumes kind of gathered, i think it really started. We had two little kids who got a little overwhelmed by the fumes. Theyre still here. I dont think theyve been transferred to the hospital. I think they were treated here. Once that happened there was a response from Public Safety to figure out what it was.
