Vietnam supports Agent Orange/dioxin victims in requesting legal responsibilities from US companies producing and selling the toxic chemical used during the war in Vietnam,
stated Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang on February 4 while commenting on a French court’s acceptance of the lawsuit filed by Tran To Nga, a French Vietnamese, against 14 US chemical companies.

Hanoi (VNA) – Over the past days, the international media continue running
articles highlighting Vietnamese-French Tran To Nga’s lawsuit against 14
multinational companies for producing and selling chemical toxins used by the
US army in the war in Vietnam, which have destroyed the environment and
affected the health of generations of Vietnamese people.

Significant attention has been paid to a hearing on January 25 for a trial brought by Vietnamese-French woman Tran To Nga against the US companies that provided the chemical toxins used by the US Army in the war in Vietnam.

At the trial, held in the Crown Court of Evry city in the suburbs of Paris, lawyers for the defendants spent more than four hours arguing for their clients, which are 17 chemical producers from the US, including Monsanto (acquired by the German group Bayer in 2018) and Dow Chemical, while Nga’s three lawyers had only one and a half hours.

causing serious consequences for the community, her children and herself.

Nga, born in 1942, filed the lawsuit in May 2014. Among the companies named in her suit, there were such names as Monsanto (now under the German group Bayer) and Dow Chemical.

Hang or Kamponnigrodha Pagoda
Hang (Cave) Pagoda in the province’s Chau Thanh Town is around five kilometers from Tra Vinh City. Initially called Wat Kompong Ch’rây, which means Banyan Tree Wharf, the pagoda adopted a new dome-shape gate lying between two small ones in the last century. Since then, the pagoda was renamed Hang (Cave) as the new gate looks like a big cave, distinguishing it from other Kh’mer-style pagodas in Tra Vinh.
