The Bemidji Jaycees’ 77th Annual Water Carnival is shaping up to be a lively kickoff to summertime. Starting Thursday, July 1, and going through Monday, July 5, the event is expected to resemble the carnivals from years past that the Bemidji community has come to love, said Water Carnival co-chairman Eva Fisher.

May 26, 2011 Local potter Tom Daly spent eight weeks teaching members at the Boys and Girls Club of the Bemidji Area how to make pottery. Participants learned how to roll, form and hand-build clay pieces using a variety of tools and methods. Each member also got to glaze his or her own piece of art. The activity was funded by a Region 2 Arts Council grant.

But, saturated bogs and soils following a wet autumn and heavier than normal moisture content of the snow that has melted have created a situation where a hard rain in the Headwaters area now could mean flooding troubles.

BEMIDJI The Bemidji community will soon honor businesses that operated with excellence over the past year.
The Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Awards of Excellence event and give out six awards in total, with one of them being the Charlie Naylor Lifetime Achievement Award. The businesses are Chamber members and have been nominated by their peers.
The winners will be announced during a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, at the Hampton Inn and Suites, with keynote speaker Susan Jarvis, President of Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota.
