MONMOUTH, ILL. (04/02/2023) The Monmouth College softball team split a non-conference home double header against Fontbonne University on Saturday. The Scots (6-12) lost the opener 5-3 and won the nightcap 3-1. In the opener, Monmouth left runners on in the first two innings and Fontbonne took the lead in the third against starter Lizzie Durfee (Arlington, Washington). A single, a walk and an error loaded the bases with one out. With two down, a dropped flyball scored three runs and a dropped pop up scored a fourth to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Addison Narlock (Antioch, Illinois) was hit by a pitch and she was out at second as Lillian Hucke (Aledo, Illinois) reached on a fielders' choice. Calista Warmowski (Spring Grove, Illinois) doubled to center to get the Scots on the board. MyKenzie Kloess (Dupo, Illinois) singled and stole second. Abby Winstead (Morton, Illinois) singled home Warmowski and an error scored Winstead to cut the deficit to 4-3. Neit

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire Men's Basketball Team had a tough showing against the Cornell College Rams in their 72-47 loss. It was hard to keep up with the Rams' perimeter shooting and at times it really seemed like Cornell could not miss. The Rams shot 48.5% from long-range. Isaiah Lockett led the Fire in scoring with 11 going 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Jordan Rayner and Matthew Garife both added nine points apiece. Sean Gallery was the next highest scorer with seven. "We played close for most of the first half, but Cornell came out hot in the second half to pull away," said head coach Ben Davis. "We need to play more consistently across the entire game. We show glimpses of what we could be, but need to put it all together." The Fire travel to Beloit College on January 14 to battle the Buccaneers.
