242 drivers an hour speeding near Dundalk school Reporter: );   ); Hundreds of motorists are speeding on a stretch of road which passes a school and community centre every hour putting people’s lives in danger. As many as 242 motorists speed through Lordship on average every hour with only a quarter of drivers adhering to the speed limit, shocking statistics have revealed. The research on the speed of vehicles on the road through Lordship was carried out following the death of popular local man Paul Sheelan who was tragically killed in a car crash in the area recently. Local councillor Andrea McKevitt has called on Louth County Council to put measures in place to slow down traffic and prevent another family suffering the heart-breaking loss of a loved-one on the road.

LMFM By Ruth O Connell Photo Credit: Google Street View Councillors tabled separate notices of motion at the Dundalk Municipal District s monthly meeting seeking action by the local authority Louth County Council is being urged to introduce traffic calming measures on the Dundalk Greenore Road to improve road safety at two separate locations. Fianna Fáil s Andrea McKevitt and Sinn Féin s Antoin Watters had tabled motions at the Municipal District s monthly meeting, as part of efforts to reduce the speed of traffic outside Bellurgan National School. Cllr. McKevitt had sought the installation of speed ramps there and in a separate notice of motion, at the Lordship straight from Annaloughan to the Old Hall Road, while Cllr. Watters had sought a safety audit and traffic calming outside Bellurgan NS and Bellurgan United s grounds.

Calls for measures to stop motorist speeding past Dundalk school Reporter: );   ); Councillor Antóin Watters raised concerns with gardai over motorists speeding past a local school and football club. The Cooley Peninsula Community alert group hosted an online meeting last week with Superintendent Michelle Baker from Dundalk Garda Station, Sergeant John Brady and Garda Lisa McCabe both from the Carlingford station, Councillors Antóin Watters and Andrea McKevitt, and community groups from Faughart, Omeath, and Ravensdale. Cllr Watters, who is Assistant Secretary of the Cooley Community Alert Group, raised concerns about speeding on the main road from Ballymascanlon to Greenore, especially past Bellurgan National School.
