Two people are dead after being involved in a violent road traffic accident on the Southern Highway between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Saturday, January 2. It took place at around 6:00 p.m. as 16-year-old Edwin Marquez was travelling on a motorcycle when the driver of a Chevy Colorado pickup truck veered into his lane, causing extensive head and body injuries to two people.
At around 6:20 p.m., police were called to Bella Vista Village, Stann Creek where they observed the body of Marquez along with his damaged motorcycle. Police further noticed the pickup truck, which was driven by Juan Veliz, who was along with his common-law wife, two children, and another man. Their investigations have since revealed that Veliz and his party were leaving a social event in the Stann Creek Valley area when he accidentally drove into the lane in which Marquez was operating the motorcycle. This caused the collision in which both Marquez and Veliz succumbed to their head and body injuries. Mar
