1 dead in 12th Street crash

One person dead in 12th Street crash A sedan crashed into a utility pole in the area of 12th Street and Belford Avenue on Friday night killing one person and injuring another. Police responded to the crash shortly after 9 p.m. on Friday and found one person ejected from the car who was taken to the hospital, according to a news release from the Grand Junction Police Department. The extent of that person’s injuries were not reported. Another person was found dead inside the vehicle and required extrication by the Grand Junction Fire Department. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Shooting suspects now face attempted murder charges

After additional information surfaced, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office investigators have amended the charges for two local men suspected in an early morning drive-by shooting on Thursday. Justin Fowler, 21, and Trey Shriver, 20, now face attempted first-degree murder charges and each received $500,000 cash-only bonds from Mesa County Court on Friday. If this story wasn’t strange enough, Fowler and Shriver are also being charged with several offenses after bullet holes were discovered in several second-floor windows at the Grand Junction Police Department building at 555 Ute Ave. on Thursday. In the drive-by shooting investigation, while deputies were speaking with two neighbors at the scene Thursday morning, a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle — a maroon Toyota pickup — was seen turning north on Moonlight Court.

UPDATE: December 18  11:00am: Both suspects are now also facing charges of attempted murder in the first degree. Investigators believe the residents of the home were the intended targets of the early-morning shooting. The case remains under investigation. Two arrests have been made after shots were fired early Thursday morning in a Grand Junction neighborhood. According to the Mesa County Sheriff s Office, just before 1:00 am, a sheriff s deputy heard what sounded like gunshots in the area Moonlight Court and Belford Avenue, just off of E Road. As it turned out, shots had been fired into an occupied home resulting in about $2000 in damages, but no reported injuries.
