AVON LAKE, OH Avon Lake officials are planning a tree-based memorial for former resident and member of the Citizens Tree Commission Russell Beck.
Beck died last week in Oregon, surrounded by his daughter s family, the city confirmed.
While living in Avon Lake, Beck served on the Citizens Tree Commission for 23 years. He was first appointed to his post by Mayor Vince Urbin in 1997. Beck s experience as a biology teacher at Lakewood High School made him the go-to guy for information about plants, trees and wildlife.
Subscribe Russ was a kindhearted soul. He loved working with the city on its tree program. He fondly spoke about the farm and he always had a smile on his face. Such a good guy, said Joe Reitz, public works director, for Avon Lake.
Stolen quadbike recovered after dramatic police chase near Ludgershall A stolen black quadbike has been reclaimed after a dramatic police chase near to Ludgershall, and officers are now appealing for its rightful owner to come forward. The rider had skidded onto Elden Road and then onto a track leading to Sweet Apple Farm, where he abandoned the quad bike and towards trees. PC Sharon Duggan said: We d like to speak with anyone who may have been in the area at this time and has dashcam footage from either direction to or away from Wellington Academy towards Tidworth. Also, if any members of the public in the Eden Road area had any sightings of this person please come forward.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio The Castrigano sisters were raised in a household where the love of learning was instilled early in life. Nicole, 32, Noelle, 31, and Natalie, 24, have fond memories of their parents volunteering in their elementary school classrooms, attending field trips, and volunteering to teach religion classes at the family’s local church. Wiltshire Police have appealed for anyone who has recently had a quad bike stolen to come forward after recovering one near Ludgershall. An officer recovered the stolen bike after a pursuit from Tidworth to Ludgershall on Monday, January 4, and are now asking the owner of the bike, and any witnesses in the area at the time of the pursuit, to come forward. Avon Lake Historical Society appoints new board members: Short Takes on Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville

AVON LAKE, Ohio The Avon Lake Historical Society is a true asset to the city, and its members do some amazing work. If you have attended events in the city such as the North Coast Christmas with Santa visit, cemetery tours, Rockin the Rails and other library events, the Avon Lake Historical Society was part of the planning or was the host.
Preserving the history of Avon Lake is vital, and all members of the society should be commended for their efforts.
