Have You Met: Anna Garcia overcomes a difficult childhood
She cares about her father, but not like a daughter; we don t have that kind of relationship
Lisa Miller
If you’ve spent much time at the Crawford County Courthouse, you’ve probably seen Anna Garcia walking up the ramp, arms full of files for her job as a title examiner. After work, she goes to the home she loves on the southeast side of Bucyrus or to Fremont to visit family.
You might not know she spent her younger years visiting her aunt at the Weaver Hotel. Or she talks to her dad on the phone at least once a week and visits him in prison. Ralph Garcia Sr. has been incarcerated since he murdered her mother in 1986.
BUCYRUS - The Crawford County Council on Aging plans to keep seniors active this summer, even though its building remains closed to the public.
Activities Director Courtney Moody released a schedule of events for May, and promises to have way more planned for June. I m just excited to be able to get out there with my seniors again, Moody said. I know everybody has been stuck inside due to COVID and the weather, so bringing back our outdoor activities is going to be a fun time. Hopefully, the weather cooperates.
Taking activities on the road
One of her goals this year is to make sure seniors across the county have access to activities, so Moody s taking her events on the road.
Have You Met: Becky Teynor on work, family and more
Lisa Miller
When the ultrasound technician talked to a pregnant Becky Teynor about “the first one,” she realized there must be a second baby in there.
“Not an expected situation at all. They don’t run in my family,” the Bucyrus woman recalled of the day she found out she and her then-husband were going to have twins. When Audrey and Simon came along, they joined 2-year-old big brother Henry.
Three children under 3 sounds pretty daunting. But her “carpet crawlers” arrived after she already had put herself through college, obtained three degrees and made a big career change.
Staff report
MANSFIELD - A 19-year-old Bucyrus woman killed in a crash Monday in Mansfield was a 2020 graduate of Wynford High School who also attended Pioneer Career and Technology Center.
Julie Miller, the Wynford High School principal, said Tori A. Carman attended Wynford Local Schools from early elementary on, then studied web page design at Pioneer. She was a beautiful soul taken way too soon and will be greatly missed by all, Miller said. The entire Wynford staff send our condolences and prayers to Tori’s family and friends.
Carman was killed when the silver 2008 Toyota Corolla four-door she was driving rear-ended a red 2000 Freightliner flat-bed tow truck, according to a news release from the Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. Monday on the entrance ramp from U.S. 30 eastbound to Interstate 71 northbound, east of Mansfield.
