Firefighters rescued a hiker who fell down Big Chico Creek Thursday morning.

CHICO, Calif. (UPDATE: 12:27 p.m.) –– A hiker was rescued after falling down Big Chico Creek Thursday morning.
Chico Fire Battalion Chief, James Lucanic, said they received a report around 10:46 a.m. about a hiker who fell into the water.
Lucanic said the hiker fell from an embankment and landed in a waterway just below Bear Hole in Upper Bidwell Park. The hiker’s phone fell in the water with him, however, he was still able to call 911.

West Springfield land buy expands Bear Hole conservation area

WEST SPRINGFIELD Bears, deer, turkeys and hikers will have a little farther to roam in West Springfield this year, when the town completes its purchase of 67 acres of former farmland off Birnie Avenue.
The purchase will provide new access to trails around Bear Hole Reservoir, popular with hikers and bicyclists, said West Springfield Conservation Agent Mark Noonan.
