Andre Ferguson, executive chef at the Courtyard by Marriott in Waterbury, died April 3 from COVID-19 at age 49.
Ferguson worked at the hotel when it was a Holiday Inn during the 1980s and ’90s. After spending time in Arkansas, Ferguson returned to Waterbury to be closer to family and took a job at the Marriott as a line cook, the only open position at the time.

BEACON FALLS After a minor crash on Tuesday, fire officials are warning residents to be alert due to an increase in cross-traffic caused by what is expected to be a months-long detour.
Units from Beacon Hose Company No. 1 responded for a minor crash near the Route 8 on-ramp Tuesday afternoon. Fire officials said there were no injuries, but a brief traffic disruption as crews handled a fluid spill.
