Boston Acton resident, community leader, author, and elected member of the Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee, Kyra Wilson Cook, received the Black Excellence on Beacon Hill Award from the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus on Friday, Feb. 26 during their annual celebration held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. State Representative Dr. Tami Gouveia (D-Acton) nominated Cook, the first Black Actonian to serve in elected office, for the honor.
“I moved my family to our dynamic town because of the excellence of Acton-Boxborough schools. It’s a privilege to play a small part in ensuring that our schools remain welcoming places for all of our students,” Cook said. “I am very grateful to Representative Gouveia for nominating me, and for the opportunity to accept this honor as a recognition of Acton and Boxborough’s amazing people.”
