United Way closes on Be A Hero goal

HANNIBAL — The United Way of the Mark Twain Area is closing in on its $425,000 goal for the 2020-21 Be a Hero Campaign. Denise Damron, executive director of the United Way of the Mark Twain Area, announced on April 1 a major push called “40 Days for $40,000” to help meet the aggressive campaign goal. As of Friday, United Way reported the Be A Hero Campaign is within $14,000 of making goal. “United Way through our donors and volunteers works in the community to create opportunities for individuals to give of their time, talents and treasures to make the community a better place for all,” Damron said. “The COVID-19 pandemic created challenges for all the agencies that our donors help support.”

United Way poised to meet goal with heroic campaign

HANNIBAL — United Way of the Mark Twain Area is launching the Be a Hero: 40 Days for $40,000 to meet the goal and provide support to partner agencies providing local services through a year unlike any other. Executive Director Denise Damron said local organizations giving back to the community receive money through United Way’s annual campaign, and the goal for the 2020-2021 Be a Hero Campaign was $425,000. Following a year that saw the establishment of the COVID-19 Response Fund, Aly’s Project and more than 60,000 meals, a drive-through barbecue fundraiser and efforts to support the community from every partner agency, a new campaign is focused on raising campaign’s $40,000 shortfall from Monday, April 5 through Saturday, May 15.

United Way looks back on year like no other

HANNIBAL — The United Way of the Mark Twain Area looked back on a year filled with hope, setting up an emergency COVID-19 Response Fund to meet local needs and receiving donations for the 2020-2021 Be a Hero Campaign during a year unlike any other. Denise Damron, executive director of the United Way of the Mark Twain Area, kicked off the virtual look back at noon Wednesday on YouTube. The video showed how the United Way and partner agencies made a difference throughout the year — made possible through the generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations. Forrest Gossett, 2020-2021 campaign chairman, said donations to fund partner agencies’ efforts are critical to combat homelessness, child and spousal abuse, hunger and other issues which have become more prevalent during the pandemic.
