Ontario reported 1,848 new cases of COVID-19 on January 31, but a “data catch-up” in Toronto pushed the count up by 300, Health Minister Christine Elliott said.
Today’s count is a drop from the 2,063 infections confirmed on Saturday. Toronto Public Health added extra cases on Saturday as well.
The city is switching data reporting systems this week to more closely align with the provincial reporting system.
The seven-day moving average for new cases – which officials consider a more accurate indication of virus spread – is 1,887, down from 2,417 at this time last week.
