Admiral Karambir Singh briefs PM Modi about Indian Navy s efforts in Covid management
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh on Monday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the efforts made by the Indian Navy to aid civil administration in Covid management.
He informed the PM that the Indian Navy has reached out to all state administrations and have offered help in terms of hospital beds, transportation and the Naval hospitals have been opened for use of civilians in various cities.
He also informed that medical personnel in the Navy have been redeployed at various locations in the country to manage Covid duties while the trained ‘Battle Field Nursing Assistants’ would be ddeployed in Covid duties.

The Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Indian Navy has installed oxygen beds in three of its hospitals in order to ramp up medical facilities for Covid-19 patients.
Preparations on this front have been done at the INHS Patanjali in Karwar, INHS Sandhani in Mumbai and at the INHS Jeevanti that is situated in Goa.
In fact, the INHS Asvini situated in Mumbai has also built composite teams consisting of medical and non-medical staff.
These units are being trained as Battle Field Nursing Assistants for deployment purposes at Covid care hospitals on a short-term notice.

Sustaining its efforts in the fight against COVID-19, Indian Navy is continuing with its mission of Oxygen Express in order to render support to the administration of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. A Defence release said 41 oxygen cylinders (collected from the islands) were refilled and embarked onboard Indian Navy hired vessel, Meghna here for onward delivery to the Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands. The operations are being progressed under the supervision of the Naval Officer-in-Charge at Lakshadweep under the aegis of Headquarters Southern Naval Command in coordination with the Lakshadweep administration. The vessel is expected to reach the islands by today or tomorrow and would again carry back empty Oxygen cylinders on its return voyage.
