This is the cbs overnight news. Were coming to you from the Republican National convention on its first day. Yesterday the country wkoucountn by another deadly ask of violence. Six Law Enforcement officers were shot yesterday in baton rouge, louisiana. Three of them are dead, another is in critical condition. They were ambushed by a gunman that the Police Identify as a black exmarine from squit. The shooting came less than two weeks after a black man was shot to death during a struggle with two white baton rouge officers. That was followed by the assassination of five dallas officers by a black gunman who was out for revenge. David begnaud is in baton rouge. Reporter Officers Exchange gun fire with a suspect. Authorities say officers were responding to a 911 call after witnesses saw a man acting suspiciously. He was dressed in all black and carrying a rifle.
