MANILA A lawmaker filed a measure proposing to rename the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac City, Ilocos Norte as Ferdinand E. Marcos State University (FEMSU). In filing House Bill No. 2407 on July 27 and releasing it to the media on Wednesday, Ilocos Norte Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba said his proposal to name the state university after the former chief executive is meant to honor Marcos' "unparalleled vision and undying legacy". The university, which was established on June 6, 1978, was named after lawyer, educator, and politician Don Mariano Marcos, the father of the late president. Barba said MMSU has lived up to its name after it was recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Center of Excellence in Teacher Education and Center of Development in Agriculture, Biology, Forestry and Information Technology. MMSU has also been chosen as one of the few National Universities for Agriculture and Fisheries Education in the entire Philippines, he noted. &q
