GAZETTE COMMENT: Council - stop sitting on public cash

It was pointed out at a meeting last week that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has more than £6.5million in unspent developers’ contributions. This is cash given to the council by developers to be spent on the community. If it isn’t spent, guess who it returns to? The property developers. With local elections on the horizon, residents will rightly be questioning how much value for money they are getting from their local council at present. The town’s ice rink is in desperate need of repair while Basingstoke Town Community Football Club has put forward a strong case to get back to The Camrose (part owned by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council). Why can’t these unspent funds go towards helping these much-loved institutions?

Camrose: Rafi Razzak appeals asset of community value decision

Camrose ground listed as asset of community value

THE CAMROSE Stadium has been listed as an asset of community value. The latest move from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council means that Basron cannot sell the stadium without first giving the community six months to buy it. The historic stadium, which saw two planning applications on the site turned down last September, was listed as an asset of community value by BDBC, with the decision coming through on Friday evening. The Camrose Ground It comes after a request to do so by Basingstoke Town Community Football Club. Basron, owned by the former club chairman Rafi Razzak, bought the freehold to the ground in 2016 from the late newspaper proprietor s estate, which later saw the club kicked out from their home.
