So what do we know about how much equipment they had for emergencies in this mine and what the chance that there are air pocket wheres people can sustain life for a while under ground . What are they saying . Well, chris, the Authorities Say theyre pumping air down into the mine shaft. Of course, thats a big problem. The oxygen supply just disappears when you have an underground fire like this. One of the on the scene, he says that theres no communication thus far with the miners that are still believed to be trapped down there. One of the big concerns is that the Safety Record of this particular mine. Just about 2 1 2 years ago a lawmaker from this region submitted a proposal in the Turkish Parliament calling for an investigation of this very mine because of safety concerns there. It was overturned, voted down in Parliament Just 2 1 2 weeks ago.

Mourners and desperate loved ones gather there at this coal mine in turkey, about a seven hour drive southwest northwest of istanbul. The death toll at this hour, 245. 129 miners may still be alive and all eyes are on what rescuers bring up over ground. There have been moments of jubilation as well. [ applause ] at least 88 miners have made it out. Some walking out of this mine on their own. Its really a miracle. A transformer blew and ig nighted a fire tuesday that has been slowing down the rescue today. Lets take you to this mine site to cnns ivan watson. There are more lifeless bodies being pulled out of this mine than survivorsment when is the last time there were cheers at that mine . Reporter you know, i have been here probably 12 hours and havent heard any real cheers at all. The mood is quite grim down near the mouth of the coal mine. He said it was his duty to stand there and receive other friends that would be coming out. He told me he has no hope of seeing any of them come o
