After 70 years of living and giving to others, Gail Mahan Johnson of Boone, N.C., lost a courageous struggle with cancer on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
A native of South Hamilton, MA, Gail was predeceased by her parents, Alexis A. and Marjorie M. Mahan; as well as a brother, Douglas Mahan of Spartanburg, S.C., and an infant granddaughter, Olivia Strickler of Pisgah Forest, N.C.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Len Johnson; and by daughters Heather Strickler (Scott), of Pisgah Forest, N.C., and Lindsay Johnson, of Durham, N.C. She is also survived by her sister, Gwen Ryan (Terry) of Gloucester, MA; and her brother, Alex Mahan (Johanna) of South Hamilton, MA; as well as her grandchildren, Caroline and Franklin Strickler of Pisgah Forest, N.C.

Lora Greene Hollar passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2020 at the age of 95 at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living Center.
Lora was born March 15, 1925 in Sugar Grove, North Carolina to Dillard and Pearl Greene. She grew up in the Phillips Branch community with her 11 brothers and sisters working on the family farm. Marriage took her to Greensboro where she and Clay lived and she worked as a medical assistant. After 40 years away the mountains called them back home. Along with all of her hobbies and projects, Lora found time to work downtown at Dancey s Shoe Store where she loved visiting with customers and helping find the perfect fit.

Hazel Marie Townsend, age 82, of Catawba Terrace, Lenoir, passed away Friday evening, December 11, 2020 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born April 12, 1938 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Harrison and Mae Townsend. Mrs. Townsend was a long time member of the Holy Communion Lutheran Church, and in addition to being a housewife and homemaker, she worked as a seamstress at Huffman Hosiery Mills in Granite Falls. . Hazel was always a hard worker for her family, doing everything from canning vegetables from the garden to making fudge for family and friends during the holiday seasons. She dearly loved her family and shared a special bond with her grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was enjoying the frequent family camping trips.
