Extinction Rebellion activists have smashed the windows of Barclays Bank s headquarters in London with hammers in protest at capitalism fuelling a climate catastrophe .
Seven women attached stickers reading in case of climate emergency break glass , before damaging the windows in Canary Wharf at around 7am today.
The protesters, who wore patches on their clothes bearing the words better broken windows than broken promises , then sat down and waited to be arrested.
The group said the action was part of its Money Rebellion against the capitalist system which used nonviolent direct action, causing damage to property to prevent and draw attention to greater damage .
