An 8yearold girl has been killed and two others have been wounded in a shooting. One woman was also injured in the gunfire. Ktvus Paul Chambers joins us from the crime scene to tell us what weve learned so far from investigators. Good morning, paul. Reporter good morning. A family is grieving after this happened last night in this apartment complex behind it. Its correct. An 8yearold child was killed. We can take a look at video here, and we personally counted 12 bullet holes in the security gate leading into the home. Thats at least 12 right there. Police say around 11 15, shots spotter picked up gunfire in the 3400 block of wilson avenue. Police say there were shots an the apartment complex. Its unclear if it happened inside or outthe shooting. Police say an 8yearold girl was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police are still trying to piece together how the children knew each other. There was some relationship between the children and adults. There is was reference to a grandmother. Reporter the adult woman and the other two children are listed in stable condition. Police are asking people for any help in this situation. As of right now, they dont have any leads or motive for the shootings. Its unclear if they are looking for a single or multiple shooters. Police have not released any information about a suspect. Well stay on top of this and bring you the latest as this develops and as soon as we find out well pass it along to you. An Oakland City Councilman wants to ban protesters from carrying certain items from demonstrations. It comes after a attack on a server during a recent protest. Claudine wong is live for us this morning in oakland and says this proposal has been debated in the past. Claudine . Reporter it has. But with more protests expected this weekend with the violence and vandalism, this weapons ban will get another look. It didnt get a positive reception from protesters the first time around. This proposal came on the table after occupy protests. I want to show you video of those. We know at that time, these weapons were used there. This proposal came up that would ban things like hammers, clubs and shields. Last year, the president said they were using these as a cover. In may 2012, this is a Public Safety meeting where they tried to talk about the ban i want to tell you pat carnagan that i could walk up with you and [bleep] kill you with a pencil. Are you gonna outlaw pencils . Reporter angry protesters took over the meeting. Getting pretty aggressive with their rhetoric and actually that statement about the pencil elisted cheers from some people. The president just ended the meeting. Oakland police just released new photos as they look for people who vandalize parts of the downtown area during the protests. Most of the protesters were pieceful but as you can see, a small group got out of control. This photo shows a person spray painting the street and Police Released a short video from the protest. It shows a man on a bike briefly talking to a driver at lake merritt before kicking the mans car and putting a dent in the back of it. Police are asking anyone who knows the people in the photos or video to give them a call. Three men have been charged for cims in connection to protests in oa following sawrgts acquittal saturdays acquittal. Two are charged with vandalism. They are accused of smashing windows monday night at the mens warehouse at 15th and broadway. A third man, Jeffrey Clark is accused of throwing a rock at a police officer. More demonstrations are planned for across the country for Trayvon Martin including a proposed boycott. Were learning about the storage cost tied to this months crash at the San Francisco airport. Sfo has given Asiana Airlines until july 26th to remove the wreckage. Asiana has no plans to extend the deadline. Investigators are still trying to answer some critical questions involving one of the teenagers who died in the sfo tragedy. They still dont know if she was alive when hit by a fire truck on the runway. They are still trying to find out how her body ended up near the left wing of the plane. Federal investigators say she was sitting in the back of the aircraft at the time of the crashlanding. They now hope video from a firefighters helmet camera will provide some answers. Police are investigating allegations of child abuse at a Mountain View preschool. The Mountain View voice reports police are looking into claims a staff member at little acorn Christian Preschool may have touched a child inappropriately. The Municipal Transportation Agency had proposed removing all parking on one side of the street and some on the other side. The spaces would be turned into dedicated bike lanes. Sunshine for some already, some very thick fog for others and some of the low clouds. It looks like they will persist near the coast. Not much change there. I think by 9 00 a lot of that will burn off fast compared to the last couple of days. Santa cruz coastline saw the sun yesterday before the noon hour. They will probably see that again today. But our fairweather friend, if you will, is beginning to move back towards california. It looks like it will be here for about a week. The fog will be thick. The coast will stay in the 60s and 70s. Ktvus janine de la vega just spoke with the woman who owns the property and janine, the mayor of santa cruz paid her a personal visit as well . Reporter yes, thats right. I spoke with the woman on the phone. She said she was touched the mayor did that and she said the mayor was going to reconsider whether the city should pay for the damage done on her property. The gun battle between the police and suspect took place near the garage on doyle street. Its been fixed. But ive counted on this pillar, one, two, three, four six different places where a bullet pierced this pailar. She said its too expensive to fix. She said her fiveunit apartment complex was severely damaged by the rounds that the sheriff shot at Jeremy Goulet. The Property Owner said she was left with bullet holes on the property. Her family had to clean up the blood and human remains left behind by the shooting. She was surprised by this. Most people we spoke with this morning sympathize with her. Ive never seen so many police and military people in my life. The whole situation was under control. The guy was compromised and then they went ahead and smashed in the door anyway, just as a precaution. I think the owner is not unreasonable to ask for compensation personally. Reporter the Property Owner said she personally waited several months after the shooting to file a claim out of respect for the investigation. She is not sure what to expect from them. This morning Berkeley Police are investigating the citys second homicide of the year. Police found a man who had been shot just before 7 00 last night on derby street. The soon to be former Homeland Security secretary is expected to be introduced at the meeting this morning. But not before immigrant rights supporters, expected to hear their voices heard. Police are preparing for the day as well. Now, napolitano has received praise and criticism. Some consider her the face of the current immigration policy. Many immigrant groups are planning a protest around noon before the confirmation meeting is to take place. They say they are upset because napolitano oversaw an unprecedented 1. 5 million deportations. And then theres the question of experience, while napolitano is expected to be the first woman president in the campuss 145year history. Some in academia are questioning her qualifications in the job. Some are also praising her as a choice, especially as governor of arizona twice where she increased the education budget in 2006 and also voiced her support for a fixed tuition rate. Some say her washington connections will help seek government funding. The first thing she says she plans to do is visit all of the campuses in the uc system. Critics say her calls for the recall i will be doing a lot of outreach to make sure all student voices and concerned are being addressed. We have new information about a wildfire thats burning out of control in riverside you county. Officials announced its grown in size to more than 35 square miles. It has already forced 6,000 people to evacuate. It is located in a rugged mountain terrain, southwest of palm springs. The fire is only 15 contained and moving toward more populated areas. 3,000 firefighters have been brought in to try to stop it. They just said get out of the house. Weve been running around trying to get the trailer hooked up. I have a business at the house with a lot of products in it. The fire is sending smoke and ash in the air. A smoke advisory has been issued throughout the region. Fire in the Los Padres National forest has forced the evacuation of about 100 people, including a group of boy scouts. The fire began yesterday in a retreat south of carmel. Calfire gave us this photograph of the smoke. The fire has destroyed more than 500 acres so far. Oakland Police Continue to investigate the disappearance of a missing toddler a day after family and friends held an emotional vigil for her. The report comes a day after the commission levied a 454 million fine over Barclays Bank in london over trading practices in california. The California Legislature is considering shutting down four Developmental Centers including one in sonoma. They would hit me and they also put me in restraints. Patients spoke about their experiences during a hearing in sacramento yesterday. The four centers house about 1500 people with disabilities. Supporters of the centers worry people with disabilities wont receive the care they need if the state decides to close the facilities. Witnesses took a letter to the Governors Office asking Governor Brown to appoint a safety czar to oversee the centers. Any time your body gets overheated you have the risk of getting heat stroke. It was probably around 100. It was like being in a state car. They apologized. They gave us water, kept us as comfortable as possible, gave us food, a free drink of our choice. Other passengers said the airline did Everything Possible to keep them comfortable. The delay was due to a mechanical problem. Today the Biggest Comic Book convention in the world kicks off in san diego. About 130,000 people are expected to attend this years comic con convention. A horrible crime involving deadly gunfire and children. Paul chambers has been following this story since 4 30 this morning. He joins us now with new video of inside the home where the shooting took place. Good morning, paul. Reporter good morning, tori. Now an 8yearold child has lost her life. Oakland police are trying to figure out who did this. About a half an hour ago, we went inside the home and we spoke to someone who is inside when the deadly shooting took place. We can take a look at video here. I was asked not to show the mans face because he was in the house last night when the shooting occurred. This morning, hes cleaning up the blood in the carpet after the shooting last night. His front door has about 12 bullet holes in it. He says last night, there was a knock on the door and the children went to answer it. Thats when someone opened fire in the home. Police say shots spotter picked up the shots here near macarthur boulevard. Police say his nephew, 7year old niece and her 8yearold friend staying the night were shot. I didnt know if she was dead or what. But she was bleeding, you know, i was telling the police you i said to the ambulance, you guys need to come. It was taking them pretty long. Reporter the four shot were transported to a hospital where the 8yearold girl was pronounced dead. Hes not sure who did this to his family. In the meantime, Oakland Police are looking for anyone who knows anything about this to give them a call. Theyve not released any information about a suspect or a motive. I know its located on the bay bridge. Reporter thats right were at spear and harris. The pg e crews are trying to reroute power to this block so they can get the power on while repairs are being made. I can turn you around over this way, and you can see the problem up in the wires there. If you take a close look, they are all twisted into each other. They said there was some kind of flash or spark at 6 45 this morning. The wires got twisted, knocked power out and they are still trying to figure out how that happened. If i can show you some of these buildings, there are residential areas. Pg e says about 45 people may be affected by this. These are big buildings. We have been talking to residents out here who say theyve been in the dark for a while trying to figure out when they will get their power back on. If we pan down to harrison, they are directing traffic because those lights are out. But really the other blocks around the area when we drove through here do have power. That looks to be the only problem area in this section. Again, spear and harrison where traffic is slower because of the repair work thats underway. How long will this take . Thats still unclear. Again, its a rerouting issue right now. They are trying to get power back on the block. The repairs will take much longer. You have that pole right there. They shut off the power to it. Thats the start of the problem. You are talking about one, two and maybe another four poles that they will need to fix. No word on what started the problem. But it will take hours to fix. Claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. An Oakland City Council man wants to ban protesters from carrying hammers, wrenches and other items during demonstrations. Concerns were raised that this could violate the rights of protesters. But the city council could decide to reconsider after a waiter was attacked with a hammer. The 34yearold waiter said he and other Staff Members were trying to keep the protesters from breaking windows when someone hit him in the face. I just basically fell down to my knees. I never lost consciousness. I heard a loud ringing in my ears. He was not seriously hurt. He plans to return to work today. Oakland police just released new photos as they look for people who vandalize parts of the downtown area during the protests. Most of the protesters were peaceful. But as you can see, a small group got out of control. This photo show as person spray painting. This video shes a man on a bike shows a man on a bike briefly talking to a driver near lake merritt before kicking the mans car and putting a dent in the back of it. Police are asking anyone who knows the people in the photos or video to give them a call. Three men have been charged for crimes in connection to protests in oakland following saturdays acquittal of zimmerman. 27yearold Lamar Caldwell of oakland and 34yearold tanzene doha are charged with vandalism. They are accused of smashing windows at the mens warehouse. And a third man, 30yearold Jeffrey Clark from oakland, is accused of throwing a rock at a police officer. More demonstrations are planned across the country for Trayvon Martin including a proposed boycott. Coming up at 8 25, why the son of civil rights leader Martin Luther king wants people to stop buying a certain type of orange juice. Were learning about the storage cost tied to this months crash at sfo. The airport is charging the airline for storage costs. The airline has been given to july 26th to move the airline. They are not giving an extension. Investigators are still trying to answer some critical questions involving one of the teenaged girls who died in the sfo tragedy. They still do not know if she was alive when hit by a fire truck on the runway. They are still trying to find out how her body ended up near the left wing of the plane. Federal investigators say she was sitting in the back of the plane at the time of the crash. They now hope video from a firefighters helmet camera will provide investigations. Police are investigating child abuse at a Mountain View preschool. Police are looking into claims that a staff member may have touched a child inappropriately. Police are interviewing children at the preschool. A letter has gone home to the parents. The staff member under investigation has been placed on administrative leave. The plan to cut the number of Parking Spaces on polk street is being revised. The Transit Agency originally planned to eliminate all parking on one side of the street and cut back available spaces on the other side. Merchants said that would hurt their business. Besides this, there was more visible damage but since then, the doors have been replaced. The Property Owner thought since the police did the damage, the city would play. She filed a claim against the city saying she was left with bullet holes. That was call caused when police engaged in the shootout with Jeremy Goulet outside her apartment complex in february. Police shot and killed him after they say he gunned down butch baker and elizabeth butler. The city denied paying her 5,000, the amount it cost her to make repairs. Neighbors say they sympathize with her saying it was important to get it cleaned up quickly so the community would not have to deal with the trauma. People had to slow down, put up the no trespassing signs because there were so many tourists coming by and making it a real uncomfortable situation. She said the mayor visited her yesterday and told her she put the item back on the agenda for reconsideration. Berkeley police are investigating the citys second homicide of the year. Police found a man who had been shot just before 7 00 last night on derby street. The man later died at the hospital. Police are interviewing witnesses but have not named a suspect. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Berkeley Police department. At its meeting, the uc regents are expected to formally introduce Janet Napolitano as the new president of the tencampus uc system. Brian flores is live in San Francisco to let us know why some people are not happy about the regents choice. Good morning, brian. Reporter good morning, tori. Yeah, napolitano is expected to be introduced shortly after 1 00 this afternoon but not before immigrants rights protests will have their voices heard. Uc police have added officers as well as put barricades around the entrance. Now, napolitano has drawn both stances for her Homeland Security work as secretary, but also some criticism as well because of the current immigration policy. Many groups plan to rally before the nomination meeting is to take place, again, just after 1 00 this afternoon. The group says they are upset because they say that napolitano oversaw an unprecedented 1. 5 million deportations. We understand the regents will discuss and vote on her compensation package before shes introduced shortly after 1 00 this afternoon. While the regents are not commenting on her nomination before the meeting, weve also learned shes one of 300 candidates considered for the position. The appointment of a president is a big day in university history, always. Its an exciting day for many reasons. I would encourage napolitano to bring students, faculty and employees altogether to the table to overhaul ucs finances so were putting students first instead of wall street. We have new information about a wildfire burning in riverside county. Officials announced it has grown in size to more than 35 square miles. Its already forced 6,000 people to evacuate. Its moving more toward populated areas. 3,000 firefighters have been brought in to try to stop it. They just said get out of the house. Weve been running around trying to get the trailer hooked up. He was cleaning up the blood left in the carpet of a his family and niece and nieces friend was shot last night. His front door has about 12 bullet holes in it. He said last night there was a knock at the door. The children went to answer it. Thats when someone opened fire. Shots spotter picked up the shots and police say an adult woman, his mother, 4yearold nephew and 7yearold niece and the 8yearold girl staying the night were inside the apartment. I spoke to the little girl, whose woman basically considers her her grandchild. Heres what she had to say. I saw her from the stairs and i said is alicia next door. He said yes. They were supposed to be brought to a modeling talent scout or something tomorrow today. Reporter police have not released any information about a suspect or the motive or anything about this. Happening today, a man accused of stealing a yacht from a sausalito harbor is expected in court. Leslie alan gardner is expected to face a judge for a preliminary hearing. Police say they discovered the theft after the yacht ran aground near linda mar beach in pacifica in march. The owner of the yacht saw the incident on the news and called police to say his boat had been stolen. Gardner has pled not guilty to charges of grand theft, receiving stolen property and vandalism. Well the verdicts will be read against two young men charged in the gang rape of a 16year old girl. 22yearold jose mon tan monano and marcelas peter were tried at the same time in court but with two separate juries. They are both accused of in the beating and rape of a richmond girl outside a homecoming dance in 2009. Todays verdicts are expected at 1 30 in martinez at Contra Costa County courthouse.
