A state Department of Education leader has asked Broward Schools Superintendent Vickie Cartwright to sever ties with district employees whose “failed decisions on school safety” were highlighted in a recent statewide grand jury report.
The state Department of Education believes some of Broward's issues including under-reporting of crimes, failure to work with law enforcement and allowing students with serious felony issues back on campus “are ongoing and require immediate action.” District officials say they've already made significant progress.
A long-awaited grand jury report into the management of Broward schools recommended that Gov. Ron DeSantis remove five School Board members, four of whom still are on the board.
