Dionardo Carlos honored two rookie cops killed in an encounter with the New People's Army (NPA), an armed group of terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), at Barangay Lonoy, Gamay, Northern Samar on Saturday. Justice Secretary Menardo I. Secretary has assigned a panel of prosecutors to conduct the preliminary investigation of the criminal complaints against nine policemen in the March 8 killings of Calbayog City Mayor Ronald P. Aquino and two other persons.
Also killed in the incident were Aquino’s bodyguard Rodeo B. Sario and driver Dennis O. Abayon.
Those charged with murder in the complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were Lt. Col. Harry Villar Sucayre, Maj. Shyrile Co Tan, Capt. Dino Laurente Goles, Lt. Julio Salcedoi Armeza Jr., Niel Matarum Cebu, Edsel Tan Omega, Nino C. Salem, Julius Garcia, and Randy Merelos.
