Justice Secretary Menardo I. Secretary has assigned a panel of prosecutors to conduct the preliminary investigation of the criminal complaints against nine policemen in the March 8 killings of Calbayog City Mayor Ronald P. Aquino and two other persons.
Also killed in the incident were Aquino’s bodyguard Rodeo B. Sario and driver Dennis O. Abayon.
Those charged with murder in the complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were Lt. Col. Harry Villar Sucayre, Maj. Shyrile Co Tan, Capt. Dino Laurente Goles, Lt. Julio Salcedoi Armeza Jr., Niel Matarum Cebu, Edsel Tan Omega, Nino C. Salem, Julius Garcia, and Randy Merelos.

CATBALOGAN CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) The City of Calbayog has allocated P50 million for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines. In a letter addressed to the League of Cities of the Philippines, Mayor Ronald P. Aquino has informed the league’s president of the city’s fund allocation intended for the purchase of vaccines. The LGU is ready to purchase FDA-approved vaccines that are safe, effective and reasonably priced, Mayor Aquino said.
Meanwhile, Ronald Ricaforthe Calbayog, City Information Officer, shared that the funding will come from the savings of the city’s 2020 budget.
He further disclosed that the LGU will prioritize the healthworkers and frontliners, uniformed frontliners, senior citizens, and to be followed by the general public.
