BANNER ELK â The Banner Elk Town Council reconvened for its monthly meeting on Monday, May 10, in a hybrid session, in which council members and the town manager discussed several bills in the General Assembly that could potentially limit the zoning authority of local municipalities.
The eveningâs agenda began with a public comment from Ted Silver, chairman of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, who asked the council to consider adopting a proclamation recognizing May as National Bike Month, as well as the 11th year of the International Ride of Silence.
âWe are dealing with a deadly pandemic affecting our daily lives and health, yet giving us the opportunity to spend time with our families and make the best of these tragic times. Now more people are finding bicycling and walking are healthy, viable, economically and environmentally beneficial forms of recreation, transportation, exercise and connectedness,â Silver stated.
BANNER ELK â The Banner Elk Town Council convened for its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 8, in which Councilman Allen Bolick announced that he would be leaving his post on the board.
As the first order of business, the council passed a special resolution commending Councilman Bolick for his many contributions and service of the Town of Banner Elk. During his time on the council, Bolick helped lead the completion of several projects that have benefited the community, including the Historic Banner Elk School, the BE Book Exchange and the establishment of the Historic Banner Elk School Golf Classic. Bolick also served as the chairman of the Banner Elk Educational Arts and Culture Complex.
BANNER ELK â The Banner Elk Town Council reconvened for its monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 14, in which the town voted to approve new amendments to its zoning ordinance.
The town approved the new amendments after holding a brief public hearing that it had set the previous month. According to Tax Collector Cheryl Buchanan, the updated ordinance was needed in order for the town to be in compliance with state regulations that were passed the previous year. Included in the ordinance are laws regulating the use of political signs within the townâs limits. The ordinance regulates the size of the political signs and the locations which they are allowed to be erected.
