Taiwan Cooperative Bank (合作金庫銀行), the nation’s largest lender by number of branches, yesterday issued NT$1 billion (US$36.16 million) of sustainability bonds and listed the debt on the Taipei Exchange.

More businesses using contactless payment methods

More small merchants, stores and vendors have adopted contactless payment methods amid rising domestic COVID-19 infections.
“The number of stores that have asked about our service and were interested in using our electronic payment tool has risen more than 40 percent since the COVID-19 alert was raised to level 3 nationwide last week,” Line Pay Taiwan Ltd (連加網路商業) said in a statement yesterday.
Line Pay Taiwan said that most of them are small or medium-sized stores or online merchants, which are generally more hesitant about accepting virtual payments than larger stores.

More than 200 finance firms allow working from home

A total of 236 financial companies have adopted work-from-home programs, nearly double the 124 firms that had done so as of Monday, amid a surge in COVID-19 infections, Financial Supervisory Commission data showed yesterday.
The number of securities investment trust and consulting companies that allow telecommuting grew threefold from Monday, as most of their staff do not need to interact with customers in-person, the commission said.
The commission has talked with local insurers about the issue and would allow them to use software such as mobile apps to enable sales agents to talk with customers through videoconference, it said.
