PETALING JAYA: It was such great news that even the King congratulated them.
Jarell Cheong Tze Wen and Muhammad Hamdi Ahmad Hakimi have been accepted into Harvard College in Massachusetts, whose 3.43% admission rate was at its lowest this year.
This means that only 1,968 students were selected out of the 57,435 applications received by the renowned US institution, said the Harvard Club of Malaysia in a statement.
Harvard College is the undergraduate school of Harvard University.
Muhammad Hamdi, who studied at SM Sains Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur and completed A Levels at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar as a Bank Negara Kijang scholar, was in fact also accepted by Columbia University, another Ivy League university.
PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has congratulated the two Malaysian students who have been accepted to study at Harvard College in Massachusetts.
He expressed his happiness and pride over Jarell Cheong Tze Wen and Muhammad Hamdi Ahmad Hakimi’s outstanding achievements.
“This in turn has raised Malaysia s name at the international level. The success of the two youths once again proves that Malaysia is capable of producing individuals of quality, authority and of international standard, he said.
“This success also proves that with commitment, high spirits and hard work, Malaysians are able to compete and succeed on the international stage, ” added the King in a statement posted on Istana Negara’s Facebook.

Two Malaysians students have done the country proud by beating great odds to be admitted into Harvard College, the undergraduate school of Harvard University.
Jarell Cheong Tze Wen from Kuala Lumpur and Muhammad Hamdi Ahmad Hakimi from Kuantan, Pahang rightfully earned their spots at the prestigious learning institution’s undergraduate Class of 2025.
Established in 1636, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, and the Ivy League research university is regarded as among the most prestigious in the world.

As such, the competition to enroll into Harvard is extremely fierce with thousands of talented applicants vying to earn a spot and call themselves a proud graduate of the institution.
