Amherst officials hopeful local COVID vaccination clinics will resume Updated Feb 22, 2021; AMHERST Town officials remain hopeful that its local COVID-19 vaccination sites will resume operations early next month, despite the state’s recent decision to stop supplying doses to local boards of health. “I expect to make an announcement along these lines in the very near future in the hope that we can launch our site in early March,” Town Manger Paul Bockelman said in a memo to the Amherst Town Council on Saturday. The town had been running clinics at locations including the Bangs Center and Amherst-Pelham Regional High School. But last week Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration announced it would stop supplying doses to boards of health in all but 20 communities hardest hit by the pandemic.

The Lehrer Report: Feb 5, 2021

The Lehrer Report: Feb. 5, 2021 Monday, February 08, 2021 Print I did it. I signed up get the vaccine. I followed the directions and went on line at 11 a.m. as requested. I can see why there are issues. The sign-up required a photo or download of the insurance card. Dismay, I don’t know how to download. I have never done it. Fortunately , one could take a photo. For those who register over the phone, I assume a photo would not be required. I have friends in other states where it took hours just to connect. I will still wear my mask, keep my distance and use a lot of hand lotion with all the hand washing.

Around Amherst: Two prominent nonprofits depart Bangs Center By SCOTT MERZBACH AMHERST  The upper floor of the Bangs Community Center is vacant after two private nonprofits that have long used the space relocated over the past several months. Both Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County, a program of the Center for Human Development, and the Center for New Americans have departed the town building. But Town Manager Paul Bockelman said no decisions have yet been made on how to repurpose the rooms and offices that have been rented to the agencies for close to 40 years. “We will look at options to use of the space at the Bangs Center,” Bockelman said.
