The central government on Monday lifted all restrictions on export of onions from 1 January, 2021, with its prices starting to ease in the domestic market after the arrival of the new crop.
Earlier, the Centre had imposed a ban on the export of onions on September 14, 2020. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a release regarding the amendment in export policy of onions in which it said: In exercise of powers conferred by section 3 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, as amended, read with para 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2015-20, the central government hereby makes an amendment in the September 14 notification amending the export policy of onion. The onions, including Bangalore Rose onions and Krishnapuram onions, have been allowed to be exported from January 1, 2021.

New Delhi, Dec 28 : Export restrictions on all varieties of onions will be removed from January 1, 2021.
All onion varities including Bangalore Rose and Krishnapuram can be exported, said the notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade
Apart from raw onions, these varities can be exported in the form of cut, sliced or in powder form .
In September, the Centre had prohibited export of onions with immediate effect due to the rise in domestic prices.
Under the revised policy issued in September, export of all varieties, including Bangalore Rose and Krishnapuram onions, excluding cut, sliced or broken in powder form, was prohibited.
