Sharjah Art Foundation has announced Genealogies in the Middle East and Latin America, an online screening programme featuring 21 video and film artists and collectives from the two regions. Taking place June 1 – July 11, the project explores historical and contemporary relationships between artists in the two regions, in order to consider their shared histories of colonisation and the close links developed through several cycles of migration over the last 150 years from nations such as Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq to countries in South America such as Peru, Chile, Mexico as well as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela.

March Meeting 2021 (MM 2021), the annual Sharjah Art Foundation convening of artists, curators and art practitioners to explore critical issues in contemporary art, returns as an expanded 10-day, hybrid on-site and online programme (Mar. 12 – 21). Examining the 30-year history of the Sharjah Biennial and the future of the biennial model through panels, lectures and performances, March Meeting 2021: Unravelling the Present, serves as the launch of Sharjah Biennial 15: Thinking Historically in the Present, which was conceived by the late Okwui Enwezor (1963–2019) and is curated by Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) Director Hoor Al Qasimi, alongside the Sharjah Biennial (SB15) Working Group and Advisory Committee, opening 2022.

.-Sharjah Art Foundation today announced the recipients of the second Focal Point Publishing Grant, an annual fund supporting artistic and research-driven publishing practices that advance scholarly examination of art history in the region and the wider world. Grant recipients Ali Essafi, Ridha Moumni, Gabriella Nugent and hākārā were announced on the opening day of the third Focal Point Art Book Fair in the Foundations heritage venue Bait Obaid Al Shamsi. Selected from more than 100 submissions received after an international open call, the winners will share a total of 27,000 USD to support research projects in the Long-Form Essay and Publication Reprint categories. Sharjah Art Foundationâs biannual event Re|sound returns for its fifth edition on Friday, 18 December 2020, in the contemporary open-air Mirage City Cinema.
