SWEETWATER COUNTY The Sweetwater County Commission set the preliminary cap on the Special Purpose Tax, also known as the 6th penny tax, during its meeting Tuesday. After discussion over amounts to set the cap and corresponding duration it would take to collect those revenues, the Commission settled on $90 million. According to current calculations and projections, this 6th penny amount would take about seven years to collect. This is a preliminary cap, which means it is a starting point for county entities to prepare plans for projects. This 6th penny tax initiative is meant to appear on the ballot for constituents to vote in November 2022. If passed, the tax was be effective at that date and the County would start receiving collections in April 2023.

City of Casper Looks to Expand Highland Park Cemetery The Highland Park Cemetery will expand, according to an ordinance that passed on first reading at the Casper City Council on Tuesday. The city is requesting the plat to create the Highland Park Cemetery Addition No. 2 to clarify the legal descriptions of about 29,450 burial plots and to incorporate previously unplatted property at the south end of the cemetery, according to a memo to City Manager Carter Napier from the city s Community Development Director Liz Becher. The land area is about 73 acres. State law also requires cemeteries to be formally platted as subdivisions.

Castle Rock Hospital District to Discuss Plans for EMS Services in Green River

SWEETWATER COUNTY  The Castle Rock Hospital District (CRHD) Board will be discussing EMS services in Green River with the Sweetwater County Commissioners Tuesday morning. On January 19, 2021, at the Sweetwater County Courthouse, the hospital district and the Commissioners will discuss the recent cancellation of ambulance contracts. On December 15, 2020, the Sweetwater County Commissioners announced they will terminate service contracts and all associated funding with those contracts with Sweetwater Medics and Castle Rock Ambulance Service, effective March 31, 2021. Registered Sex Offender Compliance Checks Completed in Sweetwater County

SWEETWATER COUNTY For the 11th consecutive year, deputies and detectives from Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service Sex Offender Enforcement Task Force, recently participated in a concentrated sweep of registered sex offender compliance checks throughout Sweetwater County as part of an ongoing effort in a special campaign known as “Operation Jessica.” During the last four months, from September through the end of December, small teams of county deputies and detectives conducted 208 registered sex offender compliance checks across Sweetwater County including in many outlying communities such as Granger, Point of Rocks, Wamsutter, and Bairoil.
