Fire causes extensive damage to large south end Bainbridge home

View Comments BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – Fire crews from throughout Kitsap County were fighting a fire at a large home on the south end of Bainbridge Island Saturday night. The home, located off Fort Street near Fort Ward Park, sustained extensive damage, Bainbridge Island Fire Department Chief Hank Teran said. No injuries were reported, and Teran said those inside had evacuated the building just prior to the arrival of firefighters. Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Teran said fire crews had been on the scene for about an hour and said they were still working to put the blaze out, adding that the fire was contained to the original building at this time. A second alarm was called out for additional assistance because of the size of the building, Teran said, noting that crews from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, North Kitsap Fire and Rescue and the Poulsbo Fire Department were helping with the response.
