across the state, and so even though an ectopic pregnancy shouldn t be covered under this law, that does not mean that that s how it s being interpreted across the state. and so a woman in that condition, who by the way might not know she has that condition, it s a diagnostic challenge at certain points, the woman s response system isn t what she might expect under pregnancy, that woman is having a struggle in texas that she previously did not have. well, the reality is that every abortion restriction across this country makes pregnancy more dangerous, so even before this law, the treatment of ectopic pregnancy that, for example, would be growing in a c-section scar is difficult to do at various hospitals across the state. so that was a challenge before and remains a challenge. but yes, this is making it even more complicated and even past ectopic pregnancy, we have
so what s going on in the district court of texas, has importance independent of what happens in the u.s. supreme court, in the mississippi case. professor quickly before you go. i want to get your reaction to hearing dr. ghazaleh moayedi say, i ve heard this from people say in states like texas before, roe v. wade into play in texas anyway. but even though there was a victory for abortion rights in the supreme court for roe v. wade, that never really got enforced in states like texas. well, in a certain sense, that s undoubtedly, true and dr. ghazaleh moayedi, is closer to the ground level here than i am. and i ve certainly heard stories throughout the country, that roe v. wade was true in theory, and not always true in practice, certainly the poorest women, who might have needed medicaid or other help to pay for abortion, as was cut out by the hyde amendment, and all kinds of so kinds of trap laws,
injunction, according to the state of texas, will not help, because, people will fear that the injunction might get dissolved, and then they ll be sued, there s a four-year statute of limitations. of course, that argument gobbles itself, up its its own tale, because if the problem is the preliminary injunction might get dissolve, the solution is, don t dissolve it, make it a permanent injunction. this case is, i think going to be an important, one not only for abortion, rates because if the texas technique, of outsourcing the enforcement of rights, were to prevail, it would be cloned everywhere for all kinds of, rates gun, rates abortion rates, rates that the lefts endorses, writes that the rates endorses, the whole system of the rule of, law the traditional review to protect, rates would be dismantled, if this texas technique prevails,
mississippi law which bans abortion at 15 weeks now looks reasonable next to this texas law that is greatly unconstitutional but bans abortion at six weeks. but we are getting a move toward something that is flatly unreasonable, but it is reasonable because we are seeing more extreme laws being passed by these extreme legislatures. this is your life s work, reproductive rights, voting rights. it is all on the line right now, and i think there are people who care about these issues but who might not follow them as closely as you do say, how did we get here? i mean, how did we end up in the year 2021 having this conversation about roe? i think it is a really important point, probably the most important one and it really happened because the republican party has now essentially decided that they are going to cater to the most extreme part of this country, which wants to make abortion completely illegal
